FOND DU LAC, Wisc. (March 18, 2019)– Mercury Marine, the world leader in marine propulsion and technology has been recognized with an International Forum Design (iF) award in the Discipline Product category, presented to the company for its V-6 outboard lineup. Among the world's most respected independent design organizations, iF International Forum Design organizes the iF Design Awards each year and has thousands of entries from close to 60 countries compete for the prize. Mercury’s 3.4L, V-6 FourStroke outboard lineup was officially launched at the 2018 Miami International Boat Show and has been praised around the world for its best-in-class innovation, performance and design. According to its website, since 1953, iF has been active in the design community, issuing awards that are recognized and respected all over the world.
Mercury also won the iF design award in 2015 for its FourStroke outboard platform and in 2014 for its ERC (Electronic Remote Control).
“We are proud to be honored by iF with this prestigious design award,” said John Pfeifer, Mercury Marine president.” “The 3.4L, V-6 engine platform has been one of the most popular engines we have ever launched, and its success is a product of design thinking and innovations that sets this engine class apart from anything else on the market. To be honored globally for this product is a testament to our commitment to meeting the needs of our consumer.”
Some of the many innovations that differentiate the 3.4L V-6 outboard are customer driven features that offer unparalleled comfort and convenience including a top cowl service door that provides easy oil check and fill (if needed) without removing the cowl – an innovation that has been praised by consumers around the world.
The goal of the 3.4L, V-6 outboard platform was to introduce a new visual language reflective of the advanced technology that improves all aspects of performance and reliability. The engine includes a cowl design that is very tight to the package yet new and modern in its form.
“There’s nothing else like that on the market today,” said Tim Reid, Mercury Marine vice president of engineering. “When you open that door, in order to disengage the cowl, you hit a button and that turns into a handle; that’s brilliant – a simple idea executed well, a tremendous asset to the customer. We listen to our customers, leveraging technology and design to develop and deliver products that transform the on-water experience.”
For all three award winning products, Mercury partnered with Designworks, a BMW Group Company, who utilized its more than 40-years of transportation design expertise to help create products that continue to lead the marine industry.

Raymarine Equips World Kayak Fishing Champion and Sponsors Team USA Kayak Bass
Within the hierarchy of fishing craft, kayaks are extremely economical, easy to transport and store, and afford access to virtually any waters, including those unreachable by bigger boats. These are the primary reasons why kayak fishing’s popularity continues to explode. But the kayak-fishing revolution has been further fueled by manufacturers who have given anglers everything they need to make these small, human-powered vessels function with the fish-catching performance of the bigger boats many anglers are accustomed to. Today’s fishing kayaks are purpose engineered to maximize fishability, and are supported by a full range of aftermarket angling accessories—including the latest sonar and GPS technologies.
Raymarine makes the electronics that help anglers get to the fish quickly and catch more once they’re there—no matter what type of boat they’re fishing from.
Technologies like RealVisionTM 3D, ultra-high-frequency HyperVisionTM sonar and Fishing Hot Spots mapping are invaluable assets to kayak anglers, which is why Raymarine’s Dragonfly, Axiom multifunction displays and new Element sonar/GPS units are the electronics of choice on so many of today’s recreational and competition fishing kayaks, including those of World Champion, James McBeath.
McBeath, of Carleton Place, Ontario, finished on top at the Los Buzos World Kayak Fishing Championships held in Cambutal, Panama last month. The Jackson Kayak Factory Team member was outfitted with a Raymarine Dragonfly Pro sonar/GPS, which he credited for his win on the vast waters of the Pacific Ocean. “It was a very electronics-intensive competition, as you were simply lost and shooting blind without any support out there,” he said. “I was able to seal the deal finding bait balls at 150 feet with the Dragonfly.”

Menomonee Falls, Wisc. (February 20, 2019)-- Building on their commitment to meaningful innovation, Blue Sea Systems is proud to announce the release of the Terminal Mount Battery Disconnect Switch.
These simple, compact, and affordable battery switches provide a perfect solution for battery management on smaller travel trailers and fifth wheels. With 150A continuous rating, they are powerful enough to control the master power on smaller vehicles. “We designed the new Battery Terminal Mount Switch with safety and convenience in mind for the RV family”, said Danny Ascencio-Hall, Blue Sea Systems product manager. “This is the first battery terminal mount switch that is ignition protected so it is safe to use around propane lockers and under the hood. It will not spark like the old knife style switches and you aren’t touching an electrified piece of brass every time you turn off your RV.”
The compact design mounts directly to the battery terminal and can be contained within the battery box for easy access. In addition, it has an IP 54 water resistant splash rating so it can also be used on battery boxes positioned outside on the trailer tongue.
The battery mount switch is available in two versions: Post mount and Stud mount. The post mount is built with a clamp design and mounts directly to the negative battery post. The stud mount is built with a 3/8” mounting hole for either positive or negative terminal stud mounting. The Stud mount includes two insulating boots. They both have a tin-plated brass bus for increased conductivity and corrosion resistance. They are ignition protected and safe to install in gasoline engine compartments.
