ORLANDO, Fla. (July 24, 2017) – Mercury Marine is pleased to announce the graduation of Jacob Parker of Wilson, Oklahoma, the first certified technician to graduate from Universal Technical Institute’s Marine Mechanics Institute (MMI) in Orlando.   Mercury’s established global network with over 10,000 points of service will be enhanced with the continued collaboration with MMI as it reinforces the pipeline of trained people to help continue the company’s growth.

Parker completed MMI’s core marine technician program along with specific training in Mercury Marine technology and products, giving him the designation of a Mercury Certified Technician.  He is the first graduate of Mercury’s manufacturer-specific program, which gives students the opportunity to achieve provisional certification as a factory-certified technician for Mercury Marine products.

“Investing in training qualified Mercury Marine technicians is an investment in our future” said Rob Schrage, director of field service development and operations, Mercury Marine. “We are proud of Jacob Parker’s accomplishment and look forward to supporting him and other technicians receiving certification in the future.”

Parker was immediately hired by MarineMax, where he began the dealer’s six-month new technician training program.

“We are excited to have Jacob on our team” said Chris Butts, MarineMax Technical Training Center Instructor.  “Having the Mercury Certification is a benefit to our company because this gives him the basic knowledge of the Mercury products and allows us to advance him further through our training program so he can begin his career as a marine technician.”

Mercury Marine and Marine Mechanics Institute (MMI) continue their commitment of investing in the success of their dealer and OEM partners by providing the necessary resources to train future technicians in the marine industry.  Currently, MMI is the only career technical education school in the country to offer a Mercury Marine certification program.

“MMI is proud of our manufacturer-specific training programs, which help students hit the ground running in jobs with industry leaders like Mercury Marine and employers like MarineMax, and we offer our heartfelt congratulations to Jacob,” said Steve McElfresh, MMI Campus President.

LAKE FOREST, Ill. July 20, 2017 - Brunswick Corporation (NYSE: BC) today announced it has signed an agreement to acquire Lankhorst Taselaar, a leading marine parts and accessories distribution company based in the Netherlands and Germany.  Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.  Upon completion of this transaction, Lankhorst Taselaar will be integrated into Mercury Marine to augment the engine maker's strong and growing P&A business in Europe.

With 2016 revenue of approximately $25 million, Lankhorst Taselaar sells an extensive array of parts and components, as well as offers next-day delivery to nearly all its 3,000 customers, many of which are new to Mercury Marine's network in the region.

The transaction is subject to usual and customary closing conditions including relevant merger filings, and is expected to close in the third quarter.

"Lankhorst Taselaar will help Mercury to advance its presence and service throughout Northern Europe, particularly in Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Germany," explained John Pfeifer, president - Mercury Marine.  "It allows us to more quickly accomplish our goals of increasing share in this important and growing market, and the unified distribution network should greatly accelerate the future growth of the combined operations, with a broader product line and an expanded distribution network."

Lankhorst Taselaar's workforce consists of approximately 50 people and the company will continue the planned move into a new state-of-the-art facility in Heerenveen, the Netherlands, by the end of 2017.

The Lankhorst Taselaar acquisition is expected to have minimal impact upon Brunswick's 2017 results, Brunswick Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mark Schwabero explained.  Further, the impact of this type of transaction has already been considered in Brunswick's 2018 plan, which was originally presented to the financial community in November 2015.

"We continue to seek opportunities to strategically grow our marine and fitness operations throughout the world," Schwabero explained.  "Lankhorst Taselaar will bolster and solidify the distribution arm of our marine P&A business in Europe.  As we have done in recent years with BLA in Australia and Payne's Marine in Canada, Lankhorst Taselaar expands our reach and customer responsiveness in the global marine marketplace and offers us a larger footprint upon which to build in Europe.

"Pursuing the Lankhorst Taselaar transaction is further evidence that Brunswick is executing its strategy to add operations, particularly those in fitness and marine P&A," Schwabero said.   "Including this and other completed acquisitions, we continue to target $350 million of additional revenue from P&A acquisitions by 2018, which was originally shared with the financial community in 2015."

Six casts. Twelve minutes. More than 21 pounds of East Texas largemouth.

Just that fleeting glimpse of Alabama pro Timmy Horton’s performance in Elimination Round 2 of the MLF General Tire World Championship seems impressive enough. But add those 21 pounds to the rest of Horton’s day on 700-acre Lake Naconiche, and you have a new single-day weight record that redefines the word “success” in tournament bass fishing.

In front of the watchful eyes of the TV cameras, Horton racked up an astounding 88 pounds, 10 ounces on 35 fish during Elimination Round competition versus Aaron Martens, Edwin Evers, Mark Davis, Bobby Lane and Boyd Duckett. The soft-spoken Alabamian’s 7 ½-hour flurry raised the standard previously set by Martens (88-0 on Pokegama Lake, Minn., in 2016) and Kevin VanDam (82-7 on Grand Lake, Mich., in 2013).

“It was just an amazing day,” Horton deadpanned after his record-breaking day. “I mean … 88 pounds.” Full Story - Video
